Department: SVA RisoLAB & MFA Visual Narrative

Reports To: RisoLAB Manager

Position Overview: This position will involve supervising the RisoLAB printing facility during open lab hours, monitoring the use of the machines, maintaining a clean and orderly facility, and assisting students with print projects and any technical printing issues that may arise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General maintenance of Risograph Duplicators
  • Regular cleaning of machines and facilities
  • Replace consumables and worn down parts
  • Monitor equipment for any technical issues and making minor adjustments and repairs as needed
  • Assist students using the equipment as needed
  • Advanced troubleshooting as printing problems arise
  • Keep the RisoLAB scheduling system regularly updated
  • Track and log supplies and inventory and update a daily log to keep the RisoLAB Manager aware of any supplies that need re-ordering
  • Maintain RisoLAB social media accounts and update regularly with documentation of student work and activity
  • Assist the RisoLAB Manager as needed for various tasks, including printing promotional posters for the Lab

Qualifications:

  • BFA with related knowledge of print media
  • Strong background in either Risograph printing or traditional printmaking and/or offset or digital press operations
  • Experience preparing files for printing, including color separations, Duotone, and Process/CMYK printing
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs
  • Experience working with students studying techniques that involve combining technical and creative skills
  • Patience in assisting students with various levels of technical knowledge and ability
  • A pleasant and welcoming demeanor
  • Interest in, knowledge of, and experience with zine culture, small press activity, small-scale publishing, and art-related print media
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle simultaneous projects, small and large, in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and basic proficiency with hand tools
  • Must be self-motivated and disciplined
  • Strong graphic design skills a plus, but not required
