JOB TITLE: Circulation Manager

DEPARTMENT: LIBRARY

REPORTS TO: Associate Library Director


POSITION SCOPE: Co-supervises the SVA Library circulation department including student worker supervision, maintenance of library collections, and circulation-related patron needs at the Main Library and SVA Library West encompassing the evening and weekend hours during the semester.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hires, trains; evaluates, and supervises 10-12 student workers; resolving personnel problems; planning and conducting staff training and meetings; preparing, maintaining, and updating training manuals.
  • Creates student worker schedules; keeping track of student hours and submitting timesheets for all federal work study and part-time student workers.
  • Oversees the maintenance of library collections and facilities ensuring that all library materials are charged, discharged, shelved efficiently, and readily accessible.
  • Resolves patron service complaints and problems; settles issues related to fines and holds placed on patron accounts. Problem solves patron matters related to other special circumstances.
  • Supervises maintenance of patron accounts using Alma library software and data from Colleague, SVA's administrative computing system. Collects and maintains circulation and student worker statistics.
  • Coordinates with Office of Academic Advisement regarding clearances of library holds for seniors prior to graduation in addition to interruption of studies notices.
  • Regularly processes trace forms for missing materials; assists with lost item reports.
  • Coordinates with other library staff as needed for developing and maintaining special library displays.
  • Meets regularly with supervisor to set and implement departmental goals concerning policies and space needs.
  • Participates in library space planning for circulation-related and public areas.
  • Assists in planning and managing annual book sales.
  • Other special tasks and projects as determined by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS degree (preferably art or humanities related)
  • Supervisory experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Solid working knowledge of Mac & PC computing systems
  • Detail oriented and highly responsible
  • Must be self-directed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem resolutions skills
  • Previous library experience desirable
